I'm celebrating the welcome return of the sunshine, long days (and evenings!) on the beach, and a new set of designs I've been longing, but too busy to make until now!

Aquamarine sea glass and white gold engagement ring

One of my favourite rings I've made this spring season is this simple yet stunning pale aquamarine sea glass ring I made for a lovely couple living here in Devon. I used the customer's own sea glass which he sent to me, had found it on the beach where the two of them had spent one of their first romantic dates together.

I cut, shaped and set his lovely pale sea glass in 14ct recycled white gold. I think it made a truly one-off engagement ring with impeccable eco credentials.

I make Glasswing recycled silver rings in a variety of finishes.  I'm often asked about the different looks, so I am going to put up some photos to help clarify which is which.  Here are examples of smooth, hammered, high polish and soft satin.  I'll add more photos as I get time to upload them, really busy with finishing ring orders for sending out this week.

Summer sea glass bangles

These Glasswing sea glass bangles are proving very popular in the Custom House Gallery in Porthleven, Cornwall, now that the summer weather has really arrived! 

Made from 925 100% recycled silver stock, they are available in single, double, triple and five 1.5mm gauge bangles, adorned and joined by a fixed ring with genuine sea glass nuggets, upcycled from Cornish and other English beaches.  I need to make some more to replenish stock!

Another sweet thing I made recently was this Sea Treasures necklace,  made with recycled silver, and a collection of aqua sea glass and blue china tumbled by the waves around Sennen in Cornwall.

All hung randomly on totally handmade 100% recycled silver findings, on a compact silver snake chain.  I still can't find recycled chains yet, but I'm hoping one of the environmentally friendly bullion dealers I use will start making some very soon.

Autumn Greens

I sold these to a lovely (returning) customer the other day, and as I was getting them ready to pack up and post earlier, I thought I'd take a few pictures, because I just really love these. The different shades of greens are great, and they catch the last of the garden's autumn sun so well.

The Rain it Raineth...and raineth

The Rain it Raineth Everyday, Norman Garstin, 1889

One of the paintings most strongly associated with Penzance is the striking "The Rain it Raineth Everyday" of Penzance Prom, by Norman Garstin painted in 1889. The original is in the wonderful Penlee House Gallery and Museum. The gallery stands in the gorgeous Penlee Park, in the centre of Penzance. I've always loved this painting, inspired as it is by the Impressionists, and the Japanese aesthetic. We always make a point of going to see it whenever we visit the gallery for events or exhibitions. I was delighted when I picked up a framed hardback print of it, of fairly decent size and quality, from the amenity tip (one of my favourite places to look for tools and useful stuff for the workshop) for 50p last year.

Yes, it's still raining. At this point, a subtle kind of cabin fever is slowly but surely gathering like a dark cloud in our place. We are getting out and about despite the downpours, but the freedoms of summer (beach life, park life) seem a distant dream, and we are redeveloping that weary winter posture, and reluctantly replacing flipflops with boots. The kids are restless, the washing is piling up, and the grass in the garden is topping a foot in some places.

We survived the weekend, just. The highlight (apart from the Wimbledon finals) was spending Sunday morning on a friend's allotment, during a brief break in the clouds. It was hard but someone had to do it. We have been given the responsibility of picking (and eating) all the soft fruit for them while they are away. "Oh go on then, we'll do it..." Nothing like a spot of neighbourliness to make you feel noble - and bloated. When the grind got too much, we retired to their garden bench with a flask . Sunday morning coffee never tasted so good!

One thing about bad weather, there's no longer an excuse to put off work! I managed to get down to drilling the seaglass we've been collecting on more clement days. My workshop is slowly returning to full production mode, and I am loving rediscovering the brilliance of silversmithing. I listed these in my shop today.
